ICE v2.0.2 generates odd reflections at bottom of panorama RRS feed

  • Question

  • Greetings.  This is my first post re:  ICE.  I'm running v2.0.2.0 (64-bit) built 2015-02-04 22:56:51 on Windows 7 / SP 1 / Pro / x64 completely up to date with Windows Update.

My basis of comparison is PTGui Pro v10.0.11.

The test case is a bit extreme:  14 overlapped frames, each with 7 exposures (0.67 EV apart).  That was to test PTGui Pro's HDR as well as stitching.  Since ICE is non-HDR (might that be coming soon :-?), I used only +1.33 EV exposures, Simple Panorama, Rotating Motion.

The images were captured by Panasonic GH4 in portrait orientation, 12-35mm at 35mm (70mm equivalent) on Really Right Stuff leveled rotating panorama platform with nodal slide set correctly to completely eliminate parallax.  This was deliberately a difficult case - closest point in scene only 12 feet from camera.  Although I used RRS gear, I rotated by hand, hence Simple (not Structured) Panorama.

Workflow:  shoot in RAW, all parameters fixed (focus, white balance, aperture, ISO), import into Adobe Camera Raw (ProPhoto 16-bit), export to 16-bit TIFF, import into ICE or PTGui Pro, stitch, export to 16-bit TIFF, import into Adobe Camera Raw, adjust temperature/exposure/highlights/clarity/sharpening, open in Photoshop CC, convert to sRGB, save as JPG maximum quality.

Here are OneDrive links to full-size and down-rezzed (2048-wide) versions for both ICE and PTGui Pro.  If you need to dig deeply into this case, please advise and I will post component RAW and/or TIFF files.

The issues are hand are the spurious "reflections" at the bottom of the panorama beneath the red marbles in the fireplace... and beneath the gridded screen in the corner of the room to the right of the fireplace.  Please advise next steps.  Thanks!

    Best regards,

  • Looks to me like you enabled the auto completion feature in ICE. It runs an inpainting algorithm on blank regions in the pano. Did you click on the auto complete button in the cropping step in ICE?

  • Bingo!  That was indeed the problem.  Thank you very much.
