  •

I have checked and rechecked to make sure that I am not transposing #s.  I want to validate my Office 2007, so that it doesn't wait everytime and ask me to activate it everytime I open it.  Also, I would like to use some of the features that I still can't use right now.

Thanks you!  By the way, the windows product key listed below is nothing similar to the one that is on the bottom of my laptop!

I ran the diagnostic which was advised.  Here it is:

  • Hello KarlaM,

"I want to validate my Office 2007, so that it doesn't wait everytime and ask me to activate it everytime I open it"

To keep Office from asking you to Activate evertime you open it, you need to Activate it. The problem is that for some reason Office can not recognize the Office Product Key that was entered. (I know this because the Diagnostic Report shows "Office Status: 104 Unknown PID")

To resolve this issue, you have two options. Option #1 involves modifing the registry. If you do not feel confortable with modifing the registry, please follow option #2.

    Option #1:

    1. Close all Office 2007 programs.
    2. Start Regedit
    3. Navigate to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Registration”
    4. Look for a subkey with a name starting with “{9012…”
    5. Open this key
    6. Rename the “DigitalProductId” value to “DigitalProductId2”
    7. Start an Office 2007 program. When prompted for a key, enter the non-blocked key.

    a. If the key has been entered correctly but is still not accepted, roll back the above changes (Rename “DigitalProductID2” to “DigitalProductID”)

    8. Proceed with activation if necessary

    a. If the key fails activation, roll back the above changes:

    i. Office will have created a new “DigitalProductId” value under the key noted above. Delete this value. (Delete the new “DigitalProductId”, rename “DigitalProductID2” to “DigitalProductID”)

    Option #2:

Uninstall Office and then reinstall using the Product Key that came with your copy of Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007. once that is done, follow the Office prompts to Activate Office.

"the windows product key listed below is nothing similar to the one that is on the bottom of my laptop"

That is correct, Computer sold by large companies (Dell, Acer, HP and others) that come with Vista pre-installed, have a specal product key that allows Vista to not have to be Activated (i.e. Vista is activated straight from the factory) The Product Key on the sticker on the side or bottom of your computer is diffrent that the one that came from the factory and should only be used in the rare case that you did not reinstall windows using the Restore CD (or restore partition on your hard drive), that came with your computer.
