Using the tracking token ONLY for emails in CRM 4.0 - Possible? RRS feed

  • Question

  •

Is there a way to turn off the automatic e-mail tagging for all users in CRM.  We no longer want CRM to do the “smart matching” thing with e-mails where it looks at the sender/recipient/subject line to determine the best match.   We want it to strictly use the tracking token and that’s it like in V3.0.

    Possible?

  •  Smart matching is not available as a setting that you can turn on and off.  You can set the individual user's to track on e-mail messages in response to CRM e-mail or from Accounts, Contacts and Leads.  This is set per user and can be part of your install configuration guidelines.

  • Hi TB,

Your concerns are not an issue in CRM 4.  You can use smart-tracking and the token if you like.  It has been my experience that Smart Matching is very precise as it looks at three or more variables.

  • Donna,

Are you saying that you don't have a choice whether smart matching is used or not.  Our company is still on CRM 3.0, but we are planning on moving to CRM 4.0 in the near term.   In your experience with CRM 4.0 deployments, is the smart matching very precise?

In my opinion, why wasn't the token simply attached as part of the message header or other details.  My concern with the smart matching is that we will get e-mails tracked to the wrong 'regarding' entities, and you have to jump through some hoops in 3.0 to resolve (delete the CRM e-mail and then re-track the e-mail from Outlook).

This is a really helpful blog by the MS CRM Team describing exactly how Smart Matching works.
