Running out of space will the WD drives work RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am running out of space due to the 35,000 pictures my wife has taken and climbing. I currently have 2TB on my custom built WHS. I am searching on Newegg and noticed a Western Digital 1Tb Cavier Black. However, the reviews state this drive is having issues with RAID configs. Any comments or thoughts would be appreciated. I currenly have two HITACHI 1TB drives.

  • Windows Home Server doesn't use RAID. If you like the WD drives, go ahead and buy them.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

  • I have six of the Western Digital Greens for the storage pool.  Works great and easy on the electric bill compared to the Western Digital Blacks.

  • I am assuming mixing it with my old Hitachi Drives at 7200 RPM doesnt matter with the new WD Green drives with different speeds?

  • Not a issue.  Just plan to retire the 7200 RPM drives when you can.  They are overkill for the WHS storage pool.
