Hello i brought a new computer for a christmas present for my children.
it was preloaded with windows 7 and i brought the product key card.
i entered it all in and everything seemed fine. but now i try to open word, excell or anything from Office it comes up with an Installing box that doesnt do anything?
and when i try to cancel it doesnt like it?
we have barely used the computer and nothing has been deleted or changed.
this is really frustated as i need to used word and i cant ;-(Monday, January 3, 2011 9:19 PM

the computer is an Acer Aspire X3910
it say OS system Windows 7 Hompe premium 64 bit
we also brought product Key Card for Office home and student 2010 which includes word, Excel, Powerpoint and OneNote.
i followed the instructions by clicking Activate and entering the product key this was done a few days before Christmas then i had to hide the computer from the children.
now its all been set up nothing from office works. im not sure if it worked when i first set it up i didnt check
i click on an office application (word, excel or onenote) and windows installer appears.
i wait for it to do what it needs to then after a few minutes a noise will happen and a box will appear: Fatal Error with intsaltion. and i have to click Okay.
then thats it. back to square one ;-(
This doesn't appear to be a problem with activation of Office (validation is now defunct for Office) or Windows, so I'm going to ask you to repost in the Office Installation Answers forum - where specialists can assist you. Please make sure that you give them all the information in your latest post, and your earlier post - you needn't however post the MGADiag report, as it is irrelevant to the issue at hand. By all means, include a link to this thread in your post.Good Luck!

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.

OK - you have what is presumably a Trial/Starter installation of Office 2010 on your machine?(MGADiag is blind to all thing Office-2010)IF it's a trial version, then you have to purchase a license to continue to use Office beyond the trial period. If it's a Starter version, then only Word and Excel come with Starter edition, and you have to purchase an upgrade license to be able to use anything else. The Key on the base of the Laptop is for Windows, not Office - and consequently will not work to activate Office.Open Word - what EXACTLY appears on-screen? - you may either get the Starter Word application opening, or a request for a product Key, or a request to install the product. If Word opens - no problem. If you get the request for a Key, you have a Trial installIf you get the installation warning, then let it complete - it can take a few minutes.
