  • Question

  • I'm trying to setup my account for the Live Mesh. When I sign into www.mesh.com I just get an endless repeating "Error: This service isn't avaliable right now. Please try again later"

I have tried it on three different computers including Windows 7, Windows XP and Snow Leopord. I have several friends who are already using Live Mesh and they report that it is working fine for them.

I have tried cloing all browsers and clearing all cache to no avail. I have tried IE 7,8, and Firefox. Since it is working for others, I'm wondering if it is a problem with my account?

  • What kind of LiveID are you using? Don't post it here, but is it a 3rd party email address or a Live, Hotmail, MSN ID? Is it a simple format - name@domain or more complex like firstname.lastname@subdomain.domain ?
Where are you located - country?
You may want to try creating a new LiveID at http://account.live.com to see if that works?

  • It's a @gmail.com Live ID.  It's a simple name@domain. I'm located in Canada.

I don't really want to create a new ID... I already have far too many emails/usernames etc.

Interesting I just tried my old ID, which is also a 3rd party account fisrt.lastname@domain and it works just fine...  however I don't use this account anymore for several reasons.

    Thanks

  • Thanks for the details. It sure seems like a problem with that specific LiveID, but why I can't tell you. Being in Canada shouldn't be an issue. Here's a long shot guess - go to http://account.live.com and sign in with the gmail LiveID. Check the details and make sure that the location information is set correctly for the account.

I know what you mean by too many IDs - I have a slew of them. :-)

  • I just tried again, and same exact issue.

  • Wow, definitely sounds like an ID issue.  Took a little bit to remember the place but if you go here:

    https://accountservices.passport.net/ppnetworkhome.srf?vv=700&lc=1033

Then click "Use an e-mail address you already have" Get started now.  It will walk you through enabling the Gmail account for Passport services (mail, messenger, and LiveMesh) type items.

Let me know if that resolves the problem for you :)

  • I suspect that the gmail address is already set up as a LiveID, but I could be wrong, Ken.

Thanks for confirming - I was pretty sure that I understood that to be the case.

  • I was hoping it was that, but assumed it was already enabled in Passport.  If you can/want to Oglsmm please put in a bug via Connect and include the email that is failing and I'll see if there's something we can check on this end to see what's going wrong.

    oglsmm:
Here's how to submit a bug report (since you are encountering this on the web, no logs needed, but the LiveID and details of steps being followed and your experience would be great. Also, paste a link to this forum thread for Ken's attention.):

How to Submit Bugs and Live Mesh Logs

Note that you may not receive a response to the bug report, though. It will be transferred to the internal system to be assigned to the appropriate development group.

  • I use my last at dcpromo.com for quite a long time, and am all of a sudden getting service unavailable.  I use mesh all the time, but think that some maintence is going on now...

Hi, oglsmm. Apparently, you got the alert when I marked the thread as answered yesterday during cleanup of the forum. The fact that you filed the bug report makes it answered from a thread perspective. I do hope that we see a solution for you in the near future. I have no clue what the Live Mesh team is up to and await the next version based on rumors circulating.
My question from the 13th was actually posed to Chris, who joined the thread after you submitted the report.
