Incorrect Product Key notification when actually Correct RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

My computer was recently wiped of everything by the computer repair guys due to a virus. They informed me that I would have to reinstall microsoft office 2007 for vista. However it keeps asking me for the product key and the product key is right, but it says that its wrong. Would really appreciate some help!

Your Toshiba Satellite A200 laptop has a Trial installation of Office 2007.

The specific Trial installed on your computer is known as the Office Professional Hybrid 2007.  It is installed generally by systembuilder/OEM/small manufacturers onto computers they resell.  It is an installation that, depending upon which product key you enter, can activate one of four different Offic products:
    1.  Office Professional 2007 Trial
    2.  Office Professional 2007 Perpetual License
    3.  Office Basic Perpetual License plus a 60-day Trial of Office Professional
    4.  Office Small Business Perpetual plus a 60-day Trial of Office Professional

The product keys that activate one of the above products come in their own packaging, without installation discs, and are called Medialess Licensing Kits.  These products are OEM licensed.

If you are trying to use a retail product key for one of the above Office products to activate one of the above OEM product licenses, then you will receive an error message to the effect that you are entering and incorrect product key or a product key that is not valid.

  • Hello liish,

If your Office product is Office Professional 2007, you can download the trial and after installation of the Trial, you can immediately convert it to a perpetual license by activating it with your full retail product key.  http://us20.trymicrosoftoffice.com/default.aspx

If your Office product is not Professional, then you will need your parents to send you the full retail disc so you can use it to install Office.

Before installing the new Office, uninstall the existing Office System 2007 product from the Programs applet in Control Panel, then restart twice.

  • The problem is that I have purchased a retail product, however I don't have the disk on me as it is with my parents and I don't live with them anymore. But I did make a record of the product key so I assumed it would still work?

What does this mean- that the 2007 product I purchased will not work? If I reinstall with the disk and enter the product number will it then work?

Alternatively my work can supply me with a 2003 version of office but I would prefer to use 2007 as I am used to it and it makes working with programs like Endnote easier.

Pretty much, How can I get my 2007 that I purchased to work?

    Thanks for trying to help!
