CRM 4.0 Reporting error. Report cannot be displayed. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello!

    I have the following CRM Deployment infrastructure:

    One Server [let's call it Server C], on which the CRM Server is installed and another Server [call it Server S] where the SQL Server 2005, the SQL Reporting Services and the Connector for SRS are installed and configured.

    When I'm trying to access a report in the CRM Web interface from another computer than the Server C, I keep receiving the following error: Reporting error. Report cannot be displayed. On Server C, on the other hand, the reports are working fine!!

    When I check the SQL Reporting Services Logs, I can't find any entries for possible errors.

    The only possible solutions that I found regarding this issue are listed below. Those didn't do the trick though or regarded other CRM deployment infrastructures.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946585

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946289

    I assume it's a configuration problem, but I can't manage to solve it.

    All help would be highly appreciated!
    Thanks.

    1. Start SQL Server Management Studio. To do this, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server 2005, and then click SQL Server Management Studio.
    2. Expand Security, expand logins, right-click NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE, and then click Properties.
    3. Click User Mappings.
    4. Click to select the Organization_name_MSCRM check box, and then click to select the public check box and the CRMReaderRole check box.

    Note The Organization_name placeholder is a placeholder for the actual organization name.
    5. Click to select the MSCRM_Config check box, and then click to select the public check box and the CRMReaderRole check box.
    6. Click OK.

  • Can you browse reports from server C via http://S/reports

    Also, have you reboot the server S after install the SSRS connector? My colleague comes cross this error last time because the server S needs to be reboot after install SSRS connector.

  • Thank you for your post!

    Prior to seeing your answer, I dug hours for a solution. In complete dispair, I decided to test what happens if I change the port of the CRM application in order to match the port of the SQL Reporting Services. Guess what?? After I gave the NETWORK SYSTEM Sql Server login more than just the CRMReaderRole and the public role [actually I gave this login all roles, besides the deny{} roles of course], the reports worked brilliantly on all servers!

    But then I saw your post and I decided to reboot the Server S, because that was a step I overlooked before.

    It appears, that after the reboot, the config files of the Reporting Services have been modified in order to set the propper permissions for the Microsoft CRM Connector and now I can't manage to solve another problem: I can't access the reports through the CRM Webinterface on any server!! I keep receiving the following error: Error. An unexpected error occured.

    The Reporting Services are working fine via http://S/reports on each server...

    Now, the the ErrorLogs for the RS looks like this after an attempt to access one report from the CRM application:

    w3wp!library!1!04/04/2008-14:58:20:: Call to GetDataSourceContentsAction(/<MyOrganizationsName>_MSCRM/4.0/MSCRM_DataSource).

  • The Server S is supposed to reboot. Try uninstsall SSRS connector, and then reinstall it and reboot.(don't manually change anything)

  • Thanks Imran for your post. The Reporting Services log, which i generated with the help of the crm diagnostics tool contains only data about the installation of the SSRS CRM Connector.

    In an attempt to turn the DevErrors on in my CRM web.config file using the IIS, i received the following error:

    An error has occured attempting to read the configuration. The error message is:

    Index was outside the bounds of the array.

    Stack Trace:

       at Microsoft.Aspnet.Snapin.ConfigSetting..ctor(String VirtDir, String Machine, String site, String siteName, String location, Int32 processID, Boolean AllowOpenAtSameLevel)

       at Microsoft.Aspnet.Snapin.AspNetManagementUtility.DisplayAspNetConfigSettings(String machineName, String site, String virtualDirectory, String siteName, String location, Int32 processID, String& exception)

    I don't know if this error causes the malfunction of the Reporting Services.

    I edited the web.config file manually in order to turn the DevErrors on and my unknown reporting error contains now the following information:

  • Thanks for your post.

    That was something I did before posting. The NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE has even more rights than that, of course not the deny rights. Smile

  • Did you resolve the "An internal error occurred on the report server" problem?  I have the same error.

  • I have the same error as well:

    w3wp!library!7!07/21/2008-23:37:39:: Call to GetDataSourceContentsAction(/Anders_MSCRM/4.0/MSCRM_DataSource).
    w3wp!processing!7!07/21/2008-23:37:39:: a ASSERT: Adding more than one data source with null original name   Call stack:
     Microsoft.ReportingServices.DataExtensions.DataSourceInfoCollection.Add(DataSourceInfo dataSource)
     Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.DBInterface.InnerGetDataSources(Guid itemID, Boolean& itemIDisModelID)
     Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.DBInterface.GetDataSources(Guid itemID)
     Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.DataSourceCatalogItem.GetDataSourceInfo(Boolean throwIfNotExist)
     Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.GetDataSourceContentsAction.PerformActionNow()
     Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.RSSoapAction`1.Execute()   etc. etc.

    After upgrading from CRM 3 to CRM 4, with apparently everything else working, INCLUDING http://crm/reports which sees and runs reports fine, ONLY the crm web reports gives errors when running or adding reports.

    I've tried the NT Authority CRM Publisher trick, changing the IIS App Pool, reinstalling the SRS, I'm really pulling my hair out because it seems like it should be a simple configuration somewhere...

    Thanks in advance,

  • We are experiencing the same error. My feeling is it has to do with a conflict between the organization name in CRM and the name of the database in MSSQL. For instance.....if your organization name in the CRM Deployment Manager is acmeinc then the report server is looking for the database acmeinc_mscrm. In our case the org name is acmeinc but the database name is acme_mscrm. I may be wrong but I think just simply changing the name of the database in MSSQL will break the CRM.

    Thanks,

  • I think I found the answer to this problem.  Check your SSRS log files (nested down in the Program Files directory for SQL Server).  If the exception occuring is: "a ASSERT: Adding more than one data source with null original name"  Then it's an error with the DataSource record.

    Open up SQL Server Management, and go to the ReportServer Database.  Run a query like:
    select * from DataSource where Extension = 'MSCRM'

    If you've got two+ records showing AND their ItemId fields are identical then this is the problem.  There should only be ONE of these records.

    I'm not quite sure how to tell which one it needs.  So I saved them all just incase.  But after deleting the first record like:
    delete datasource where DSID = '<guid of bad record>'  Everything worked.

    The error though me as we were using SQL2008. but after deleting the duplicate ItemId reports are working again.

  • Could you post the error your getting from the SSRS log files?

  • I made sure I had the reader and public roles.  This is my error from the log.  We had our reports working in SQL 2005 with CRM 4, then we upgrade to SQL 2008 and now the reports in CRM do not work.  I can go to the reporting services url and it does work, just not within CRM.  I get a 401 unauthorized error.  I have tried reparing the SQL data connector and it repaired fine but still didnt work. I also tried to run publishreports.exe and that failed with error.  Im not sure what it could be.  Thanks for your help!
