  • Question

  • I have a full (standard) installation of Microsoft Office which has worked trouble-free on my computer for a good 3 years now. We have recently moved and I am unable to find my original CD.

    About a week ago I suddenly got this notification that my software wasnt validated as genuine. Now I can only use it for another 20 times, before it wont work anymore.

    Is this Microsoft's idea of a joke?  If so, its a lousy one. You are causing a lot of inconvenience for otherwise loyal and happy users.

    So what do I do now? If I don't have the cd, how do I prove that I am running genuine software?

  • Hello linbug,

    Here is a snippet of your mgadiag report:

    OGA Data-->
    Office Status: 101 Not Activated
    Microsoft Office XP Standard - 100 Genuine
    Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 - 101 Not Activated
    OGA Version: Registered, 1.7.105.35
    Signed By: Microsoft
    Office Diagnostics: 025D1FF3-230-1

    At the moment, your computer has two installations of Office.

    As you mentioned, you have an installation of a retail license for Office XP Standard Edition.  This is activated and there is nothing that would indicate this is anything other than a Genuine installation.

    There is also a not-yet-activated installation of Office Professional 2003.  This is the installation that is telling you, "Now I can only use it for another 20 times, before it wont work anymore."

    So you have a pretty simple choice.  You can activate the installation of Office Professional 2003 that is installed on the computer, or you can uninstall it from the Add or Remove Programs Applet in the Control Panel.
