Partition a drive in a WHS machine? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am toying with certain "issues" I want to resolve. One of the things I might have to consider is to have a harddrive on the WHS machine that is not managed by WHS and Drive Extender.  Would it be possible to put a hard drive in a WHS macine and partition it and then only give one of the partitions the WHS to manage with DE?

  • No.
You can put a disk into the server, which you leave out of the storage pool, but you cannot share space between the storage pool and another volume on the same disk (with the exception of a backup disk), since adding a disk to the storage pool always takes over the entire drive.
Lowering the volume later would also not be a good idea, since WHS is not aware of such changes and may lose data or drop the disk from storage pool as missing.
    Best greetings from Germany
