Project server 2013 Jobs suddenly being processed very slow or not at all RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear PS users,

I came upon a serious problem.
My projects suddenly started publishing more slowly, getting stuck on 78%
    Jobs failed.

Is there a simple way to inspect the problem and fix this.
I am deleting some old projects.
But dont really know if that will help, since everything is still being processed very slow.

    With best regards,
    Petar

  • I dont have any optimization plans at all.

    My ram was 100% used.
I solved the problem by adding 4GB more. It was 8 GB originally.
The problem was with the SharePoint and Project Server machine, not SQL machine

But i fear I only postponed the problem.

Are there any useful link about that optimization?

    With best regards,
    Petar

  • Hello,

What has changed on the farm since this occurred? Any new patches? Changes to infrastructure? Do you have SQL DB maintenance plans running for your SQL databases for PWA? Your SQL DB will be able to help get these set up based on their default SQL maintenance plans etc.

  •  Hello PetarB

Two other things I would look into

    1) Virus protection may have change or rules alter.  There are directories that are exclude from virus scanning.  Verify virus protection setup properly

    2) Look for project finish dates that are out 10 or more years from today.    Look into project center and for schedules that have extraordinary long finish dates.   Sometimes, there is a heavy calculation for long duration tasks with many resources assigned.

  • Hi Michael,

    Thank you for your response.

    No rules have changed.

But I saw Sharepoint search servises taking very much RAM memory.
So we added more Ram, but I think I should optimize the system!

    With best regards,

  • Hello Petar

Thanks for update and glad you found solution.  SQL server will take all the memory that it can find.  With that in mind there are SQL settings to set the maximum memory that it will grab.   I would limit it to half of your total memory.
