WSUS 3.0 SP1 installation issue on WHS RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've noticed that WSUS 3.0 SP1 does not install/setup the "selfupdate" virtual directory when I have installed it on WHS.  Actually, from searching online, it may not be isolated to WHS.  I repeated got errors when I tried connecting any client to the WSUS server.  After manually adding the directory, the problem went away.  This took me several weeks (on and off, during what little free time I have) to track down the issue.  I don't know if it is unique to WHS or to a specific set of configurations.

Yes, please!  I installed SP1 a while ago on WHS and now the clients can no longer update.  I have SP1 on two Server 2003 boxes at work and they are just fine with our 1000+ clients.

I know just enough about IIS to be dangerous.  So I uninstalled WSUS 3.0 SP1 and went back to WSUS 3.0.  My machines now report and update correctly again.  I do now see a "Selfupdate" virtual directory/site under WSUS admin in the IIS manager.  I also see there is an option under right click,  all tasks, 'save configuration to file' for the Selfupdate directory.  Perhaps saving that to a file and then restoring it would work after updating to WSUS 3.0 SP1?   Maybe if I'm bored later I'll try it but for now, if it ain't broke........

  • Sorry to bumb, but I re-added the selfupdate virtual directory in IIS.  the actual path lays in the program folders directory.  IT still has some background errors, but that fixes it enough to work again.
