connecting without admin password? RRS feed

    heres what i want to do, id like to be able to have my friends connect and download the software from the http:\\server\connect site, and upon doing that i know it asks for the admin password. is there a way that it doesn't ask that. id rather not give my friends my password for the server itself. can i have a log in password that's different and allows them to connect using a connection password or something?

    The answer to this question is "No, there is no way to install the connector without the admin password for the server."

    I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

    Do you really want to do what you asked which would download the connector software, or do you want to give them access to shared folders on your server? If the latter, create a new account and give it whatever privileges you want them to have.

    im fine letting them get the connection software

    and for the later would i just make a new account then ask them to browse the server through the network to get access to it, cuz doesnt the launch pad give them what folders they can access already but with the instillation of the main server password.

    Are these people on your LAN or connecting remotely over the Internet? If the latter, the Connector software is no use to them unless you are also setting up a VPN.

    If the former, just set up accounts for them on your server using the Dashboard, allocate privileges and allow them to browse using explorer. Or do you want to have them back up their machines to your Server?
