Genuine Outlook 2007 says it's not RRS feed

  • Question

  • I had a non-genuine Office 2007 on my computer but I only needed Outlook. So I uninstalled Office, bought a copy of Outlook 2007 and installed it. When I launch Outlook, it still says that it's not genuine even though it activates fine. How can I fix it?

  • Hello JDuchesneau9,

    Here is a snippet of your mgadiag report:

    OGA Data-->
    Office Status: 100 Genuine
    Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 - 100 Genuine
    OGA Version: Registered, 2.0.48.0
    Signed By: Microsoft

    As you noted, your retail license of Outlook 2007 is reporting as Genuine.

    Now all we have to do is a little clean-up of the remnants of the nongenuine Office 2007, and we'll be done.

    Try the first step, and if you continue to see the nongenuine notices when you start an Office program, move on to the second step.

    First step:  Open an Office program and when you see the nongenuine notice, look for the "Learn More Online" link.  Click on the link to go to a Microsoft web page.  Part of what happens in the background while you go to this page is that the OGA Notification Utility is re-checking the Genuine status of your Office.  Once the page loads, close Internet Explorer, restart the computer and then once more, open an Office program.  If the recheck worked, then you should no longer see nongenuine notices.

    If you are still seeing nongenuine notices, proceed to the second step below.

    Second step:  Click on this link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919895/ to go to a Microsoft Knowledgebase page.  Scroll down the page until you see the "FixIt" in Method 3.  Click on the FixIt icon to download and run the FixIt.  Once it completes, restart the computer and open an Office program.  If you are asked to Activate Office, please do so.  After activation completes, visit www.micosoft.com/genuine and click on the Validate Office button.  Office should Validate normally.  Next, open an Office program and you should no longer receive nongenuine notices.

    Finally, if you have not already done so, run Windows Updates from your computer to get your Genuine retail installation of Outlook 2007 up-to-date.

    Let us know how you do! :-)
