MS Money broken with Win 10 build 1903 patch KB4517389 (Oct 8 2019) RRS feed

  • Question

  • After this patch, the import feature broke.  If I launch via double clicking the OFX file, the import works, if I try to import inside MS Money using File - Import - I get:  "you cannot perform this operation right now. There is an online operation in progress.  Try again later."  Other than this problem still works like a champ.

I replaced mnyob99.dll with the patched version.  I tried the reg hack to change the IE version to 9.11.10240.0.

    Any ideas?  Thanks

  • Block Money with the Windows firewall.

Run "Windows Firewall with Advanced Security" which you will
    find in Windows Administrative Tools,

    See https://microsoftmoneyoffline.wordpress.com/2016/06/06/eliminating-the-online-updatingdelays-and-errors-when-opening-money/comment-page-1/

    Here is a longer write-up:

Simply run "Windows Firewall with Advanced Security" which you will
     find in Windows Administrative Tools,

     Click on "Outbound Rules",
     select "New Rule" >

     select "Program" >
      select "This Program" and
    browse for the path
       (which may be "c:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Money Plus\MNYCoreFiles\msmoney.exe") >

If using 32-bit Windows, ignore the "x86" part.

    !do not click enter key!
Alternatively, paste one of these for 32- or 64-bit Windows respectively:
     %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Money Plus\MNYCoreFiles\msmoney.exe
     %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Microsoft Money Plus\MNYCoreFiles\msmoney.exe

"Block this connection" > leave the defaults >

      and then name your
new rule something like "Microsoft Money block outbound".  Simply
run "Windows Firewall with Advanced Security" which you will find
in Windows Administrative Tools, Click on "Outbound Rules", select
"New Rule" > select "Program" > select "This Program" and browse
for the path (which should be "c:\ProgramFiles (x86)\Microsoft
Money Plus\MNYCoreFiles\msmoney.exe") > select "Block this
connection" > leave the defaults > and then name your new rule
something like "Microsoft Money block outbound".

Click Finish at the end. Expect red keep-out symbol in front of name
     to show Action:Block.

This blocking is a good idea for most Money users, even if not having a problem. It speeds things up, because Money is not trying to reach servers that no longer exist. It would stop you from using the built-in browser for accessing things outside of your computer, however.
