my vista key showing invalid RRS feed

  • Question

  • I reinstalled vista home premium after having trouble upgrading to win 7 pro.  I tried reinstalling it 5 times and ended up just putting the vista home back on it and when I tried to activate it it says invalid.  I attached the report from the validation tool that verifies it is an invalid license.  Not sure why it became invalid but it is.  I have the report I ran on the OS before and it shows it as genuine.  Maybe I reinstalled it too many times.  If you need a copy of the report from a month ago that shows it as genuine I will paste it here.  Sorry for all the trouble.

  • The only apparent problem in the report is that you seem to have neglected to activate it within the grace period.

You probably simply need to go through activation with an operator.

    telephone activation (operator calls)

    Click on the Start button

    in the Search box, type

    SLUI   4

    and hit the Enter key

follow the instructions, but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you

  • I have called and spoke to someone live and they said "your product key is invalid" that was the end of the story.  The instructionsd you mentioned regarding SLUI 4 don't seem to work on my computer so I went through some process at Microsoft.com that yeilded zero results. I finally got the number from a friend.  So here I am trying to figure out why my copy cannot be validated.  I appreciate all the help and I wish it had been that easy.

  • In that case, try this...

Recreate the Licensing Store with the correct data.

    1) Open an Internet Browser window.

    2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.

    3) Find the file CMD.exe

    4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'

    5) Type: net stop slsvc (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)

    6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing

    7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar

    8) Type: cd %windir%\system32

    9) Type: net start slsvc

    10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)

    11) Restart your computer twice.

You may be asked to enter your COA Key and/or Activate. – if asked for the Key, use the one on your COA sticker on the machine’s case (you may need to activate by telephone).

Once complete, run another MGADiag report and post back with the results.

  • I seem to be having some trouble most likely due to the way I am reading these commands.  I run the CMD.exe as admin and get command prompt C:\Windows\system32\>  I enter the command as listed in this post

C:\Windows\system32\>cd C:Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing      I get the following:  The system cannot find the path specified.   I can't figure what I am doing wrong to keep getting this error?

    Sunday, May 18, 2014 8:34 PM
  • There's a typo in your command as posted - please use the EXACT command in my earlier post (you seemingly missed out a backslash )

    cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
