Major Problem: New forum software no longer says who has edited / proposed an answer / or marked an answer RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have made edits and seen just the line that an edit has been made.

I have seen posts that have been marked as an answer. Again there is no information as to who marked the answer.

I have not yet seen posts where an answer is proposed as an answer but I imagine the situation is the same with them.

    -------------------------------------------------

It is *extremely important* that this is corrected as a matter of urgency.

It is useful information to know who made the Edit to a post and who marked a question as an answer (original poster or a moderator)

BUT it is a complete disaster if it is impossible to know who proposed an answer.

When I go through proposed answers I have the following process.

    a) the person who proposed the post as an answer is the person who wrote it - those I discard because typically the bar to which they hold themselve is too low.

    b) the person who propose the post as an answer is known to me for good postings - these I up to answer status after a very quick look through

    c) the person who proposes the post as an answer is unknown to me - those I check more carefully before upping the post to an answer or removing the proposal.

Not being able to see who proposed an answer is thus a complete disaster for me and makes Moderating forums much more difficult and much more time consuming.

Please as soon as possible amend the code so that it works as it did before !

  • I think basically you are saying for this one that the Originator of the action is not currently show, just the action/date-time. I already have the issue to add User back, it was not intentional just an oversight that it was removed and we found it too late for this release.

What Matt is saying is that right now we only show the message history to moderators. Before, some actions were shown only to certain users for privacy/flamewar prevention... The only show to moderators for now was just a decision of time vs priority. We'll get the message history back in order for the April(end) release. I'll talk with the team on Monday and try to get the User Name in for next weeks patch release because it's probably a higher pri thing.

  • Yup, on 3.x some history items showed for everybody and some only to moderators. We noticed at the last minute that ALL items were showing to everybody, so the easiest thing was to only show them to moderators for now. This will be fixed.

  • Matt,

I thought I understood your post, but I am a Moderator in the SharePoint forums (although - a post I made in Suggestions - it no longer marks my posts with the word Moderator after my name, which it should) and so if I am reading your message correctly I should see this information.

    I don't.

I do have all the other moderator rights like Edit (of other people's posts); change type; move; merge ....

I am however glad to read that it will be fixed !

P.S. Thanks for spending part of your weekend looking and responding to posts here.

  • Thanks Rob (for both replies). Seeing who proposed is very important so I'll be very happy if the user name gets back in in a patch release.

(I'm also always looking for who marked what I wouldn't consider to be an answer as an answer. As it's the weekend I suspect that it must be the original poster in the newish threads where I'm seeing this and some of the OPs seem to think that any reply is an answer, so knowing that is often a reason for re-thinking the marking as Answer. I also don't really want to tread on Microsoft toes by removing the mark as Answer from a post that was made by a MS Moderator!)
