Home server Problems-Console/Client and Features RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello, I have a few problems right now with my home server that are driving me NUTSand I would GREATLY appreciate ANY assitance with. It's been in mothballs for awhile (6 months) while I had my house remodeled. Right now when I open up the Windows Homw server console it opens just fine, but after accessing the "settings it crashes within 5-10 seconds, every time!? Also it states under my "Network at risk error /warning at the top that a connector upgrade is available, and point me to http://toyster-hmsrv:55000/ (Toyster-hmsrv is machine name) but when I visit that page notjhing comes up? The last thing is I believe my roomate tinkered around with the Add/Remove programs-->windows features to try and correct some of these issues, so now I have no idea what he turned on or off, if someone could let me know each item/feature that should be enabled under windows features I would be extremely grateful! I'm about to scrap the whole thing and reload, but I have all the shares setup and everything else is working smoothly I hate to reformat when it may just be a few quick fixes yah know? Is there a way to remove/RELOAD the Windows Home Server Console?

Thanks for any and all assistance, if you need any logs just let me know where from and I'll post them ASAP

  • Hello jeff,

The savest thing to do when your server configuration has been damaged (or altered in a way that can not be simply be undone) is to do a "server restore". This will re-install Windows Home Server while keeping all files in the shared folders. Make sure you have a proper backup of all your important files, just in case server restore fails!?

Please consult your servers users-manual on how to perfroma a server "restore" or "re-install"?
If you build server yourselves, please read the windows home server documentation.
