Client PC says Windows is Genuine, but online validation says it is not RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a client who purchased a computer from a reputable computer company. When logged in remotely to the machine it sometimes has a pop up that says the copy of Windows is not genuine. In Control Panel I checked Windows activation, and it says Activation was successful. This issue needs to be resolved at it is a fairly important computer and Windows Validation requests can potentially interrupt its primary functions.

In System Settings it says Windows is activated, with a product ID.

Still it pops up and says:

    "Windows Activation Technologies

This computer is not running genuine Windows

To use Windows without interruption, this computer needs to be running genuine Windows....

    --> Resolve Online Now"

When I click the link, it takes me to http:// www . Microsoft . com / genuine / validate /and then asks me to purchase a license.

It may be important to note, Windows Updates are currently disabled on this computer.

I installed the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Too (1.9.0027.0) and have pasted the output below. Thank you for your assistance and any guidance in rectifying this issue would be appreciated:

  • This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers -

Installing the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers

try downloading and installing them from here - https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=22194

    (you want the iata_enu.exe download)

Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

  • Welcome to Windows! This solution worked, thank-you for your help Noel Paton. As directed I downloaded the iata_enu.exe from the link provided. The second reboot was necessary to complete the installation and afterwards Windows Validated properly.

That is a nice obscure piece of information, +10 Geek Points.

  • I must have accumulated a few thousand Geek Points, in that case :)

This fix has been well-known for the past couple of years - since one brave soul managed to find it on his own. I merely managed to spot the relevant errors, and  persuade people to apply the fix :)

Glad it worked for you - good luck!
