off topic - Is using the safety scanner a risky thing? RRS feed

I've been using the scanner for awhile now and have just been told that allowing it to fix registry errors is not a wise thing to do. I know what they say about using registry cleaners in general, that you need to know what you are doing. I've had a bad experience with a purchased product in the past. But I assumed that using the Windows tools would be safer. Am I wrong? Someone pointed out a thread by support that said they had been getting numerous reports of problems using the tool, especially regarding some issues with anti-virus and spyware programs. They instructed users how to reverse fixes in the event they had problems. I remember that I did have an issue with one of my programs awhile back. One of the particular features seemed to up and disappear and I had to reinstall the program to fix it. Could this have been caused by using the safety scanner? I'm not sure that I want to use it anymore.
