  • Hi Dan,

According to the "Release Documentation", you need to open the following ports:

    • 80 (HTTP)
    • 443 (HTTPS)
    • 4125 (Remote Web Interface)

The documentation isn't clear wheter it should be TCP or UDP, so I kept both and that does the trick for me and haven't tested TCP only although I'm sure it will work. I do seem to have trouble getting to my webserver, because I seem to be only able to connect using at https://... address. I hope this helps:-)

  • As Paul states, you need to forward port 80, 443 and 4125 to the Windows Home Server's IP address.  If this is an older, or less sophisticated router, it may not handle port forwarding.  All ports are TCP/IP and port 80 is optional, since once you actually hit the server logon page, you're https:// (443) anyway.

  • In build 1371, in Settings, you'll see a Remote Access section. Here you can setup a sub-domain at livenode.com.  Once that's done, you simply use http://<yoursubdomain>.livenode.com to access the WHS machine, and your shared folders and any computers on your LAN that can server as an RDP Host (XP Pro, Vista Business and Ultimate, Windows 2000 and the like).  If you don't forward port 80, then you'll have to use https://, which isn't a big deal.  Once you click the Logon button, you're https:// anyway.

  • If you're having trouble with configuring the router itself for the port forwarding, there's a good site here that is useful.

  • So how do I access my files from the internet, from a different location?
