WHS crash RRS feed

  • Question

  • Been working perfectly for a couple of years on an aged Advent athlon 1800+ with two IDE HDDs.  Then the other day a BSOD followed by an error message (something about missing NTFS.SYS I think).  It told me to do a repair using the original install DVD.  After about 10 attempts it accepted this, I selected repair, and it *appeared* to work...formatted the system partition...started installing windows..but then crashed again (I wasn't ther eto witness it), and now won't boot from the HDD(BSOD: NTDLL problem I think it said) OR  from the DVD (loads files, starts windows, then BSOD with something nonspecific about hardware problems).

I *think* all the hardware is OK so any help recovering this gratefully received.  Removing the second HDD to rescue the dat isn't an option for me, without going to a pro ad spending money (the other PCs around here are all laptops that (I assume) won't talk to the IDE HDD.
