WHS2011 drivers = Windows 7 drivers?

Question
-
I have three PCI cards installed:
1) video card
2) 4-port SATA card (where all of my data drives are installed...kind of important)
3) gigabit LAN card
The video card is being used in generic VGA mode. The other two cards aren't even in my device manager list. This seems like it could be a driver issue. Does WHS2011 have issues with drivers? Should I be using something other than Win7 64-bit drivers?

Correct. WHS should use Windows Server 2008 R2 drivers first if available, the Windows 7 x64 drivers (which should be the same as 2008R2), then lastly Vista x64 drivers.
The devices should all be in your DevMgr list... If they aren't banged out, then it found them....

Ideally, you want Windows Server 2008 R2 drivers (which is the underlying OS). If that's not available, then you can try Win7 x64 drivers (but those may or may not work).- Proposed as answer by kariya21 Sunday, June 12, 2011 7:45 PM

I've used - as I understand it - 64-bit drivers for Windows 7, and they worked fine.
Only one not working was the USB 3.0 driver. It did not present an error during or after installation, but it states in Device Manager that it's not working.
It does work, but only at USB 2.0 speeds as it seems.

I believe this is true, but it leads to a larger question.
I am resigned to the fact that I will need to buy new equipment to create my WHS2011 box. But how do I know that the motherboard itself will be compatible with the OS?

I agree. The important drivers are VIDEO (since the WHS won't go into Sleep mode without a supported driver) and SATA AHCI (this should always be a W2K8 R2 driver as it needs to fully support volume shadow operations required for server backup as well as support for software RAID).

Not unless you need more than say 4 hard drives and / or are doing more than basic streaming and client backups. I've successfully installed WHS 2011 on an HP DataVault x300 server I got on eBay. You can easily get W2K8 x64 drivers for it.

Hi Howard,
You can search PCI Device Drivers and if you know the Vendor , then there is Vendor Id based data as well
