  • Hello ga-boy,

Unlike past versions of Windows, Vista can be installed without entering a Valid Product Key.  This is to allow a person a Trial period in which to try out the Windows.

When Vista is installed without entering a valid product key (known as a 'Keyless Install'), Vista uses it own default "Keyless Install" key.  This key allows Vista to run for a trial period but can not be used past that trial period nor can it be activated (unless a new, Valid, product key is entered).

Your Vista is currently using the Vista Home Basic Keyless Install key RCG7P-TX42D-HM8FM-TCFCW-3V4VD. As I mentioned this key is only good for a trial period.  To continue using Vista, please enter a Valid Home Basic Product Key.

    To change a Product Key:

    1) Click the Start button
    2) Right-click Computer and select Properties
    3) At the bottom of the windows that comes up, click "Change Product Key" and follow the instuctions.

    Thank you,
    Darin MS
