Hello Bob,
From your Diagnostic Report, your Windows XP Home and Office are both Genuine, but I also see that a part of the Diagnostic Report is missing. The missing portion is a bunch of XML tags and text we call the XML Blob.
The missing XML Blob usually points to a problem (XML Issue) that is larger then just WGA, but it does have a direct affect on your ability to validate Windows. Please follow the below steps and tell us if this resolves your issue.
1) Download and install MSXML 6.0 at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=993c0bcf-3bcf-4009-be21-27e85e1857b1&DisplayLang=en (this should correct the XML issue)
2) Delete the file LegitCheckControl.DLL from the c:\windows\system32 folder (this removes the WGA Validation ActiveX control, in case it is corrupt or improperly installed)
3) Download and install the WGA Validation ActiveX control at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69479 (this will re-install the WGA Validation ActiveX control which is required to validate)
4) Go to http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag/ and click the "Start Diagnostic" button, if there are any problems listed, click the "Resolve Now" button. The site will either resolve the problem itself or provide steps for you to follow. Once you complete the Diagnostic without error, click the "Validate Windows" button.
If you are still experecing issues after you follow these steps please rerun the MGA diagnostic tool and reply with the results.
Thank you,
Matt Prall, MS

Mr. Prall,
Thanks for the prompt reply.
I downloaded and installed MSXML 6.0,
I deleted the file legitcheckcontroll.dll (I had to boot into safe mode as the file was in use and couldn't be deleted)
I downloaded and installed the WGA ActiveX controll.
I re ran the genuine diag tool and passed all catagories.
I clicked on Validate Windows and got the following error...

Hello Bob,
Can you please try these steps and then attempt to validate, if you encounter any error messages during these steps please record them and reply to this thread with the errors you receive:
Fix (Part 1):
1) Click “Start” button, then “Run”
2) In the Run window, Type: regsvr32 msxml3.dll <Click OK>
(Note: This will register the msxml3.dll and the registry entry ‘HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MSXML.DOMDocument’ will be generated)If this does not work, the msxml3.dll may be missing or corrupt. Follow the below Fix (Part 2), in that case:
Fix (Part 2):
1) Go to the Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) 3.0 Service Pack 7 (SP7) download page at: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=28494391-052b-42ff-9674-f752bdca9582&DisplayLang=en
2) From the files available, download “msxml3.msi”
3) Double click the file and follow the steps to install.
4) Click “Start” button, then “Run...”
5) In the Run window, Type: regsvr32 msxml3.dll <Click OK>
Thank you,
Matt Prall, MS

Mr. Prall,
Part #1 failed so I proceeded to part #2...
Part #2 I installed the msxml3.msi and proceeded to the Run window. I am still getting the following error when I try to run regsvr32 msxml3.dll...
Error: dllregisterserver in msxml3.dll failed. Return code was 0x80004005.
Any Ideas?
Thanks,
Bob Woodsom

Hi Bob,
Are you running these commands from an Administrator account on your computer? I would suggest reading this Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article regarding this issue: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932628/en-us. It appears the issues you are having with validation are with the XML service either not installed or running correctly. If you are still having issues after this KB article then please submit a free support request at https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?c1=509&gprid=9860 and they will be able to further troubleshoot and diagnose the issue you are having with the validation. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Matt Prall, MS

Yes, I am on an Admin account.
The (KB) article (932628) states that it has a hotfix available. I contacted Microsoft as instructed in the article and they replied that they do not have a hotfix available. See below...
Thank you for contacting Microsoft Customer Service.
I understand that you would like to obtain hotfix from Microsoft.
I would like you to know that there is no hotfix referring to KB article 932628.
I have opened a support request and am awaiting their response.
Thanks,
Bob Woodsom
