Ok,
My question is this. Out of the box does this server have any virus/spyware protection or will the home user need to purchase a virus solution and intstall it?

Right now there is no AV/spyware protection, and I doubt the software-only "system builder" version will have any. It's possible that OEMs that preinstall on their own hardware (such as HP's MediaSmart Server) will include at least a trial version of some product, but I haven't seen anything in the press.
Various people have reported success with a number of third party products. I have Norton Corporate installed personally, but there are less expensive products available.Saturday, May 19, 2007 1:54 PMModerator -
AVG antivirus requires the server version. See this thread for more information on AV products that appear to work with WHS, and do a search for antivirus as well, because I know there's been much more discussion than that.Saturday, May 19, 2007 3:21 PMModerator

Do you think the AVG free software would run well? Personally, I am trying to keep the cost of the WHS low, especially during this testing stage.Saturday, May 19, 2007 2:09 PM
