Office 2007 Home & Student didn't install correctly? RRS feed

  • Question

  • A few months ago, I attempted to install Microsoft Office 2007 Home and Student version on a computer that runs Microsoft Vista. I had to go work on something else and one of my co-workers tried to complete the installation, but it took several attempts before the computer would accept our validation code.

Today, she tried to download some Microsoft Excel 2007 templates and got a message that our software isn't genuine. Other than this, everything appears to be working fine. She just can't download templates for excel.

The computer did come with a Microsoft Office trial. I am not sure which version though ... It included Outlook and Publisher which I know aren't a part of the home version.

    Does anybody have any advice?

  • Hello Firebugmichelle,

Thank you for contacting the Office Genuine Advantage (OGA) program forum. In order to receive the best support, we request all users to initially run the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool.  This will try and identify the individual issue you may be experiencing.  Please provide a brief synopsis describing your customer scenario, including any dialogue, error messages, or codes. Error codes can be found in the lower left hand corner of most Genuine Advantage Web pages when an error is encountered.

By clicking the link below, you will download the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool (MGADT).  Then click the Run button. Then click the Run button again. Then click the Continue button to perform the diagnostic. The Windows tab should show, click the Copy button to paste your report to the clipboard.  Then paste the report into a New Post on this Forum by adding a post in it and pressing Ctrl V (to paste the text). Clicking the OK button will clear the Diagnostic window. Here is the download link:

Please tell us about the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) for your copy of Microsoft Office.

    1. What edition/version of Office do you have? To find your edition/version click Start, Word Options, Resources, About, there you should find the title of your edition.

    ·         Office Basic

    ·         Office Standard

    ·         Office Home and Student

    ·         Office Mobile

    ·         Office Small Business

    ·         Office Professional

    ·         Office Professional Plus

    ·         Office Enterprise

    ·         Office Ultimate

    2. Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?

    3. Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?

    4. Please provide the customer scenario you are experiencing.

    5. DO NOT post the Product Key.

Not sure what to look for, see this page to reference your COA:

  • Hello Michelle,

Please run the MGA Diagnostic Tool which Antron requested. This is important as it will offer details what you are experiencing. Next we may begin to formulate a resolution and provide you with the answer. What problems did you encounter while attempting to install Microsoft Office 2007 Home and Student version? Please provide us with the details surrounding this issue. Did you purchase Home and Student version or did you download it from Microsoft as a trial version?

Office programs  normally do not come standard on computers but are offered for an additional cost. Computer Manufacturers will often include a Trial version of Office, which allows you to use it for a limited number of uses after which, it will ask for a valid Office Product Key. If you wish to continue using it, you would need to buy a Full Version of Microsoft Office.

If the copy of Office, that came with your computer is supposed to be a Full Version, then your vendor should have included in the documentation that came with your computer. If you are unable to find the Office Product Key and you still believe that the computer should have come with a Full Version of Office, please contact the Vendor and/or person that you bought the computer from for further assistance.

The following Knowledge Base (KB) articles will show you how to determine whether you have a trial edition of an Office 2007 suite or program installed and conversion processes.

How to buy the 2007 Microsoft Office suites

    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/suites/FX101678741033.aspx?ofcresset=1

Also note that trial software has a 30 day timer which begins when you launch the program for the first time.

If it is out of date, you will have two options. The first is to uninstall it from your system. The second is to purchase the full version. It is recommended that you uninstall it if you do not wish to purchase to avoid further validation issues.

Thank you for visiting the WGA program forum.
