empty desktop when logging in

  Hi,
  
  Strange thing occurring with WHS 2011. If I log into the server locally (ctrl + alt + delete and password) after it has been up for a few days it will give me the preparing desktop message for much longer than normal and then present me with an empty, light blue desktop. After 30-60 minutes the desktop will appear, but all will not be well. If I launch the dashboard it will show no users, no connected drives, no connected pc's etc. A reboot (which goes fairly slowly) will fix things.
  
  Anyone else experiencing this?
