One Care Update RRS feed

  • Question

  • After updating to the new version of One Care, I was unable to connect to certain websites...microsoft, facebook and others.  I was however able to connect to yahoo, google and online banking?...After a week of dealing with my service provider and them being unable to figure it out, I started thinking it was One Care causing the problem so I uninstalled it.  At that point i was able to access microsoft, facebook and others.  So I try to reinstall one care and get the message, "unable to complete installation".  I believe at this point my One Care install is trying to reach microsoft for the update but can't. I've tried the One Care firewall repair that didn't work. Frustrating thing is after uninstalling i can't access the One Care website for help.  Couple of hours later, I try to access it and I am able to.

    Anyone have any ideas?

  • Are you running any other security software? Are you using a custom Hosts file? It sounds to me like there is some sort of conflict between the firewall and something else that is intercepting network or DNS calls.

  • No other security software except the Windows firewall.  How do I find out if there is a conflict somewhere?

  • The Windows Firewall should not be an issue. What was your previous security package? When you uninstalled, did it get removed completely?

Support can help determine what may be conflicting. You can also follow the steps here for basic troubleshooting an installation:
