Downloaded first iTunes Movie purchase

Question

I have not purchased a Blu-Ray player yet. My wife and I decided to purchase our first movie to test it out via our Apple TV. We purchased the HD movie on iTunes and it was stored in the MOVIE sub-folder within the iTunes Music folder on our WHS. It downloaded two copies. One HD ~ 3.7Gb and one SD 1.1 GB. I have folder duplication on for the iTunes Music folder. If I turn off folder duplication will I get redundantcy if a hard drive fails on my 2 hard drive WHS system.Wednesday, April 15, 2009 3:42 AM

No. Why would you? If you turn duplication off for a share, you have explicitly told Windows Home Server that you are willing to accept a risk of data loss in that share if a drive fails.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)- Proposed as answer by Ken WarrenModerator Wednesday, April 15, 2009 4:19 AM

If folder duplication is off and if one drive fails will I lose that folders data when I replace the hard drive?Wednesday, April 15, 2009 5:21 PM

You will lose any files on that drive. Thus best practice is to turn on duplication for all shares.
