SyncFramework Requirements RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I want to implement a desktop app that monitors a folder's activity and syncs it with the corresponding user container on the cloud.  Similar to something like DropBox.  One uncertainty I have is whether there is any hidden limitations I might discover using  the Sync Framework that would prevent me from achieving this.  One thought came to mind and that was whether our users would be required to install the SyncFramework as a prerequisite to installing and using our desktop app?  I would be crushed if I spent two weeks adopting the SyncFramework only to find we cant use it for a reason I wasnt aware of.

Your thoughts are greatly appreciated :)

  • Hi ikazoom,

To use the Sync Framework with your application you can include the redistributable msi along with your application.  These redistributables can be found here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=109DB36E-CDD0-4514-9FB5-B77D9CEA37F6&displaylang=en

Within this page there is information on how to optimize the install so it only uses the components of the Sync Framework you require and also do things like creating bootstrappers for your install that can be used with Visual Studio Setup & Deployment projects and ClickOnce.

    I hope that helps.
