'your product key cannot be validated' RRS feed

  • Reformatted HD, inserted Vista Ultimated DVD and get this error 'your product key cannot be validated'.

     

    Any ideas would be helpful.

  • Hello homebrews,

     

      Since you can't post your Product Key in this forum, I can not tell what might be the problem with it. So, I suggest going to http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/resources/vol/numbers.mspx and look up your local Product Activation Call center. When you call, you want to select the option to talk to a live Activation Rep (or if there is no option, don't enter anything, that should fore the system to transfer you)

     

      Once you are talking to a Live Rep, have then check that Product Key and if the key checks out, then ask to be transfered to support (or go to http://support.microsoft.com and contact Vista support) to assist you in installing the software.  (Instalation issues are usually supported at no cost).
