Live Mesh Update Impacts Taskbar RRS feed

  • Question

  • After applying the Live Mesh update this morning my Quick Launch icons on the Taskbar disappeared.  After restoring them to their previous state I went back to work but later found that they had disappeared again.  This is clearly a bug introduced by Live Mesh, as I had never experienced this before.

I'll update this post if I can replicate this behavior.

  • Hi deriuz,

We have seen this behavior in the past (it has happened to me at least once).  What operating system are you using?  Was there anything you'd done with Live Mesh (e.g., exiting the notifier, then restarting it later) that preceded the second time your Quick Launch icons disappeared?

If you wouldn't mind submitting a bug report with your logs, that would help the team - especially concerning the second disappearance of the Quick Launch icons, the one that did not coincide with a Live Mesh update (I haven't seen that before).  Instructions for how to submit a bug are included below.

    Thanks,

    Ben.

    ------------------------------------------------

To submit a bug with your logs attached:

Please go to http://connect.microsoft.com/. Sign in and then select Live Mesh Tech Preview on Your Dashboard.  Click Feedback and follow the instructions for collecting your logs and then submit a bug.

    To get your logs:

    1.  Click Start.
    2.  Select All Programs and look for the Live Mesh folder.
    3.  Click
    Collect Live Mesh Logs.
    4.  Your logs will be bundled together in a cab file now located on your desktop.

Attach your LiveMeshLogs.cab file located on your desktop to your bug.

Note: you will have to submit a bug first, then edit it to attach your logs.

If you do not have access to the Live Mesh Connect site, you can email your logs to lmprev@microsoft.com.  Please provide as much information about your issue as you can in that email.

  • I'm using Windows XP.

It appears to be an interaction between Live Mesh and Windows Desktop Search.  Now whenever I invoke Windows Desktop Search from the tray the Quick Launch icons disappear.

  • When the Live Mesh client updated on my Vista machine, it told me that it would close the Task Bar during the udpate, but when the taskbar returned, my system tray icon for Virtual PC was not there, though it was running. I had to exit and restart VPC to get the System Tray icon back.

  • Hi deruiz,

This sounds like a new issue to me.  If you wouldn't mind submitting your logs (either by submitting a bug report through Connect, as detailed in my post above, or by sending them to lmprev@microsoft.com), we can take a closer look into what might be going on.

    Thanks,

    Ben.

  • Hi Stephen,

If you could submit a bug report with your logs we can look into this.

    Thanks,

    Ben.

I think that it isn't a Live Mesh problem, except that the Task Bar needed to be closed. If Explorer crashes, the VPC console icon in the System Tray typically won't reload and you need to reboot to get it back after starting VPC again.
