  • Hello billo66,

    Installed?  Yes.

Activated?  Maybe for a while.  Microsoft does give the benefit of the doubt to the consumer.

    Validated?  Probably not.

Consumer licenses for XP are valid for ONE installation on ONE computer at a time, period.  OEM licenses are further limited to being valid ONLY on the computer onto which the license is first installed and the license is not permitted to be moved to any other computer.

To read your End User Licensing Agreement, click Start>Run, type winver and click OK.  Then in the resultant dialog box, click on the link to read the End User Licensing Agreement (EULA).

You may be confusing the license issue with Office.  Retail licenses for Microsoft Office are permitted to be installed and activated on the license holder's main computer (aka desktop) and the license holder's one portable computer (aka laptop) at the same time.  Retail licenses for Office 2007 Home and Student permit installation and activation on up to three computers at a time as long as the computers are being used by members of the same household for noncommercial purposes.

    Hope that helps!
