MCSA Server 2012 too late? RRS feed

  • Question

  • It seems whenever I get the notion to get more education or certifications, we are in between versions.

Obviously, a 2008 Cert is not advisable, but is it too late to consider 2012 certs being that it is already 2014?

I apologize for not being informed on when 2012 released and what dates the MCSA for 2012 became available.

Is there generally a lag time between release and the cert becoming available?

  • Hi, mczx.

Actually, it is not too late at all!

As of January 28, 2014, the exams were just updated to Window Server 2012 R2 edition and Windows 8.1. Go for it!

There can be a small lag between OS/Application releases vs. when the exams become available.

Here is a blog entry from the Microsoft Certification team about this update. It includes a listing of the exams that were updated.

There are many MCSA certifications to choose from. Click any of the blue square to see the exam requirements, include MCSA: Windows Server 2012:

    Good luck!

    Best wishes, Davin Mickelson

  • Just to further Davin's excellent response, the only issue you may encounter is in finding training materials for the R2-based exams. CBT Nuggets, I'm sure among others, have been releasing updated video content specific to the R2 line. You can probably still base the core of your studying off of Server 2012 resources, just supplement that with TechNet articles and the like specific to the new R2 features. I believe when it comes to the additional MCSE exams (Server Infrastructure and Private Cloud are specifically noted under the FAQs at http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/windows-server-certification.aspx#faq) beyond MCSA 2012 or MCSA 8, those exams aren't being updated to R2 content until April 2014.
