Does LiveOne Care do any registry cleaning? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Window XP runs very slowly such as an internet page taking up to 45 seconds on cable modem whereas my other computer with less memory works fine.  I tried reducing the number of programs that automatically start with the computer.  Someone told me I might need to clean my registry.  Does LiveOne Care help with this?  I run the tune up and still don't get improved results.  Anybody have a suggestion?  I thought LiveOne Care was supposed to make the system work better.

  • OneCare does not include a Registry cleaner, nor is a Registry cleaner likely to be the cause of the problem. Does the slowness extend to running programs or is it limited to browsing and loading a web page?

  • Thanks for your reply.  The slowness extends to all programs on the computer, music, media center, Word, etc...  Any ideas?

  • Maybe not even close but I have had several friends complain of their computers runnings very slowly and when I checked them, I found that a print file was hung up and once I got the printing job cancelled and cleared out, their computer started kicking @##.

    It's worth checking.

  • Hi, Jim. Slowness can be caused by any number of things. If it is affecting the performance of the PC and started behaving this way after OneCare was installed, I'd look for a possible conflict with other security software on the PC. It may well be worth contacting support -

  • Hi Sebastion, Just to put my tuppenyworth in, the registery can be an absolute devil to clean and is not a recommended procedure for anyone without knowledge on how to fix things up should the cleaning software remove a needed file from the PC's registery. I once had a bad experience of a cleaner nicking a file that wrapped up Windows until I reinstalled it. That was a true learning curve and one I definitely don't want a repeat of! Some cleaning softwares are well known for disabling a computer completely. Many people don't even know what the registery is or what it's for. My advice, leave well alone unless you know what you're doing; also be careful about which software to use. I have one now that's excellent but they don't allow advertising on here, I think, else I'd direct everyone towards it!

Yes I have a new good one aswell but its not free. The One that I recomened is Microsofts own program, other then that I would not recommend any online registery cleaners or editors.

  • Wow, I wasn't aware that my favourite software makers did their own Registery Cleaner. Microsoft hiding behind a bushel? Well, ya did this time, guys! Must go 'n' find out what it is! Thanks for the lowdown, Sebastion:-)
