PLEASE HELP!
Your problem is caused by the fact that the OS is unable to properly read the SLIC table in the BIOS.In the probable event that Carey’s fix doesn’t work (it almost never does, but he insists on posting anyhow), please do the following.Open the System Properties page (Click on the Start button, the right-click on Computer, and select Properties) and scroll down to the bottom of the page. Click on the Change Product Key link there, and follow the instructions, entering the Product Key you’ll find on your COA sticker on the machine’s case. You will probably need to activate by phone.

Download and install the latest BIOS update for your specific Compaq Presario CQ61 model number. Visit HP Support & Drivers to obtain the correct download file.

Hi Noel thanks for answering my question I tried doing what Carey told me but everytime i tried to download it it would say internet explorer cannot display. I am trying to do what you told me but I dont know what the COA sticker is... I do see stickers on the bottom but I guess Ive used my laptop too much because some on them are faded and i cant read the numbers or letters at all. When i activate by phone what is it that I need to do? Thanks againThursday, October 13, 2011 7:38 AM

Note that doing so will wipe all data and programs from the machine, so back up to external media first!

hey noel what number should I call because I called HP and they wouldnt help me unless I set up an account with them where I would be charged 14.99 a month in the first place. Im sorry but I know 14.99 sounds like a little bit of money but Im not working right now or making any money so I cant afford 14.99 a month for a problem you already gave me an answer toThursday, October 13, 2011 9:15 PM
