Double the price for non-US customers? You're joking, right??? RRS feed

  • Question

  • The Live OneCare FAQ page ( http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-us/faq.htm ) states the following...

    "
Windows Live OneCare PC care subscription service costs $49.95 (USD) * (MSRP) per year for up to three computers"

... however, when I attempt to subscribe via the link in OneCare the price is quoted as $99.95 after entering my language/location details (Australia).

Surely this is a mistake. This product is distributed by download... how can this possibly be justified?

  • While not double, (current exchange rates show that 99.95 $AU is equal to 84 $US today) I can only tell you that pricing is set by the Regional offices based on any number of factors. I don't know what any of them are, but speculate that it could be support costs, competition, infrastructure (local) and even taxes. The price via download is the retail list price, but you may be able to find it discounted from a retailer. Amazon, for example, sells OneCare for 1/2 the US list price.
