OCS 2007 R2 and the global address book RRS feed

  • Hi Guys,

    Just wondering if anyone can help - on the OCS contact lookup, when looking up contacts we can see global "group" contacts but not individuals. We havent enabled everyone for OCS but we thought this wasnt necessary just to add contacts to the client. This would indicate its configured correctly in general but we have missed something on a individual front.

  • The address book will have all users with a SIP address or a Telephone number configured
    Only presence will work for users enabled for OCS

  • Hi

    Thanks for the reponse, we've only enabled 1 group of users for testing but we can see all groups within our global address book (sip enabled or not) when searching using the communicator. We cant see any individuals even those sip enabled when searching - which seems a little odd?

    Any ideas?

  • The User Replicator contacts the GAL and pulls all contacts, not just sip enabled contacts. This is by desgin.   • Thanks but I'm not 100% sure this answers my question.. I did look through the white papers with great detail but - unless I missed it, cant find the solution. We can lookup groups of users but not indivduals - this would mean our OCS is looking at the global address book, but not finding individual users? Am I putting my point across correctly?

  • There might be a permissions problem in AD
    The Front-End Service account is used to search for all users/contacts in AD
    If this service account does not have access in the users/contacts OU then they will not be in the Addressbook

  • Possible - but would this mean they couldnt lookup anything? As they can see groups of users.

  • Hi, it seemed it just took a little time to replicate once the user(s) were sip enabled we could see them in the search feature. This still doesnt explain why we can see groups even if we havent sip enabled but not individual users??

  • The Addressbook service querries AD once a day to generate the Addressbook
    So that can explain why you only saw groups and no users, because the Addressbook had been generated before users where sip enabled
    The day after users were enabled and the addressbook service picked this up during the nightly schedule
