  • Hello benwaller,

    OGA Data-->
    Office Status: 108 Invalid VLK
Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 - 108 Invalid VLK
Microsoft Office Small Business 2007 - 101 Not Activated
    OGA Version: Registered, 2.0.48.0
    Signed By: Microsoft

The Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 is Non-Genuine.  It was installed using a Invalid Volume Licensce Key (VLK).
VLK software is not to be sold to consumers, but are designed for large orginizations that need 10s 100s or 1000s of Office installs.  In this case the VLK is Invalid. This means it was created with Piracy software called a Key Generator (KeyGen).  In other words, Microsoft did not create or release this key.

NOTE: the Microsoft Office Small Business 2007 is not Activated, so I am unable to see it's Genuine Status

The reason you hadn't see the Non-Genuine message sooner is that Office doesn't have any anti-piracy systems other then Activation and this pirated Product Key is a Volume License Key that doesn't require Activation.  The only way for you to have found out that the Office was Non-Genuine would have been if you had gone to http://Microsoft.com/genuine and click the 'Validate Office", gone to the Office Download site and attempted to download any non-criticaa update or by installing the Office Notifier. It turns out that you just recently downloaded and installed the Office Notifer and that is what is telling you that Office is Non-Genuine

Now, I am Not accusing you of piracy. There are a number of reason why your Office would be using a Pirated key. The three most common are:

    1) You may have bought the software from a unscrupulous seller who sold you pirated software.
In which case I recommend, if possible, contacting that seller and demand the Genuine Microsoft software, that you paid for or at least a refund. I also recommend submitting a Piracy Report at http://microsoft.com/piracy

    or

    2) You had your computer worked on (by a repair person, a friend or that smart kid down the street) and in the course of fixing the PC, they had to reinstall Office.  Instead of contacting you to get the proper Product Key, (maybe due to not knowing it was wrong or due to laziness) they downloaded it from the internet.
In this case, you probably have a Genuine copy (and Product Key) of Office, you just need to uninstall the Non-genuine one and reinstall the software using the proper (Genuine) Product Key

    or

    3) A repair person, a friend or that smart kid down the street may have thought they were doing you a Favor by installing a copy of Office on your computer, "for Free".  But in fact he/she installed a Pirated Copy.  It's all togeather possible they didn't know they were doing anything wrong and thought they were just being nice.
In this case, the best way to resolve the issue would be to uninstall the software and if you still want to use Office, buy it from a trusted retailer or online store.

    Thank you,
    Darin MS

As Darin Smith of MSFT noted, the report results above tell us that your Dell computer has a nongenuine installation of a volume licensing edition of Office Enterprise 2007 because it was installed with an Invalid Volume Licensing Product Key.

The report also tells us that your Dell computer has an OEM licensed installation of Office Small Business 2007, but that this installation is not yet activated.

    Here's what to do:

    1.  From the Programs applet of the Control Panel, uninstall the nongenuine installation of Office Enterprise 2007.  Restart the computer twice.

    2.  Next, open an Office Small Business 2007 program such as Word 2007.  At this point, you should be presented with the Office Activation Wizard.  If so, follow the prompts to activate Office online normally.  If you do not see the Activation Wizard, from within Word 2007, click the Office button>Word Options>Resources>Activate [Office] or [Word], then follow the prompts to activate online normally.  After activation, close Word.  Restart once more.

    3.  Next, visit www.microsoft.com/genuine and click the Validate Office button.  Office should validate normally.

    4.  Once Office is validated, go ahead and open up several Office programs to check to see if you are still seeing the nongenuine software notices.  If no notices, you successfully uninstalled the nongenuine Office Enterprise 2007, activated your Genuine Office Small Business 2007, and then Validated your Office Small Business 2007.

    5.  If you still see nongenuine notices, that means there are still remnants of the nongenuine Office Enterprise 2007 installation that have to be cleaned up.  Please post back for further instructions.

  • Thank you for your quick reply.

Where it states Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 and also Microsoft Office Small Business 2007 does that mean there are two version installed on the machine? The disc and serial I have is the small buisness one. Not sure where the enterprise one comes from.

As the machine is fom Dell I called them as the machine cam with Office already on it. They advised that the error message is caused by a virus. An dof course it would cost £55 for them to advise how to fix!
