Year-old activated laptop says it doesn't know if Windows 7 is genuine. Updates stopped. RRS feed

  • Question

  • In October 2014 I bought a laptop from a well-regarded manufacturer. I had no problems with automatic updates for a year. About a year later, it stopped updating windows. I didn't use the computer for a while after that, but started using it about month ago. I keep getting the message that Windows isn't genuine, but I know it is. I ran the online validation check and it says "Windows could not be validated as genuine

The validation service couldn't determine whether the copy of
Windows that is running on your computer is genuine. Please try to validate Windows again. If you keep getting validation
errors, try to again later or contact support. "

It does (correctly) say that Windows is activated. It worked just fine for a year. What can I do?

    Here are the diags:

Do you want me to run the file sluicom64.zip ?

Remember, the computer system properties says that Windows is activated.

    What can I do now?

  • I added those three registry keys and it still said it could not verify if Windows was genuine, but instead of saying that immediately, it gave another popup window saying it would take a few minutes to validate which it hadn't done before. Progress, at least.

Then I noticed my Java needed to be updated, which I did. Success! It finally recognized my Windows as genuine.

The next step is to get it to check for Windows updates. I have left it searching for 10 minutes and it still does not come up with a list. Here is my latest MGADT:
