My Windows Validation

General discussion

I can successfully go to www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag but not to http://download.microsoft.com. In any case, I got someone to email me the MGADiag.exe and here are the results. I desperately need a resolution to not being able to download things from the microsoft web site because my XP won't validate:

Dsavy89,
The report is showing that you have a "retail" installation (license type) of Media Center.
Windows License Type: Retail Windows OS version: 5.1.2600.2.00010100.2.0.med
The problem with that is there is no such thing as a Retail license for Media Center (IOW they are not offered for sale in retail packaging that you would find at a major electronics retailer). Genuine copies would have shown up in the report as either "COA/sysembuilder" [sic] or "OEM SLP."
The above data, plus the fact that you have two system files listed as being mismatched
File Scan Data-->
File Mismatch: C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe[5.1.2600.2180]
File Mismatch: C:\WINDOWS\system32\syssetup.dll[5.1.2600.2180]
indicates that the current installation is a "hacked and cracked" installation of XP Media Center.
Look on your Dell for the Certificate of Authenticity. Is it for XP Media Center Edition or for XP Home or Pro? Whatever is shown on the CoA is what you Dell is licensed to run. You can contact Dell and get them to send you a set of Operating System Reinstallation CDs for a nominal charge.
In order to get genuine, back up and offload your data, then run the dell OS reinstallation CD to put the orginal genuine installation of XP back onto the computer.
