  • Question

  • SO my harddrive recently crashed.  I went and bought another and have installed my OEM copy of Windows Vista Ultimate.  I'm trying to get all my software reinstalled, and eventually I run into the above box popping up.

If I click the validate your product online, I get a picture of WIn 7 or Office, with links that lead me to rah, rah, marketing BS about these two products, with nothing allowing me to validate my copy.  In fact, I just finished validating my copy, and now I'm getting this error.

The specific error code is 0xC004D401.

    MGADiag gives the following:

You have two Tampers present - a Mod-Auth Tamper, and a Kernel Mode tamper.
This usually happens because of either bad drivers, or malware.
Since you haven't yet completed the reinstall, it's probably easiest to simply reformat and start again - if you want to try and continue with this install, post back, and I'll post the 'usual instructions' - but have a look at this thread for a rough idea of what it entails.
