Can not activate Vista Premium RRS feed

  • Question

  •

I am working on a pc for a friend. After the pc starts up it has a dialog box named "Windows must be reinstalled to activate". Message in the dialog box says "Insert the Windows installation DVD or CD into your computer to begin the reinstallation process.

Also has a second dialog box, that you have to open, and it is named "Microsoft Widndows". Message in the dialog box is "IP Helper has stopped working, windows can check online for a solution to the problem" You can select either "Check online for a solution" or "Close"

Checking online for the issue brings you to a page to download a "compatability and reliability upate (KB938194)" You go to the next site and try to download the update but can not because it wants to validate Windows.

You end up with the error, "Unknown error encountered during Windows validatation....." With the error code of 0x80080250, and another clicky button to try and validate again. I have seen where other personnel have tried to validate again and again with no sucess.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Dave,

I am unable to tell what is wrong with your friends copy of Vista. But as I see from the Diagnostic Report, it is an HP Pavilion, I highly recomend that you use the recovery process (that is provided by HP, either thru a Restore CD or a Restore Image Partition on the computer's hard drive) that will restore Vista to it's factory default state. If your friend does not have the Restore CD or if the Restore Partition was erased from the hard drive, you can contact HP for a replacment CD.

  • Hi David,

    Would you:

    1) Download and run the MGA Diagnostic Tool at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

    2) Click the Windows tab and Click the Resolve button (if availabe)

    3) Close the MGA Diagnostic Tool

    4) Then try to Validate and download the update again

    if that doesn't work

    5) go to http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/ and click the Validate Windows button

    6) If the site has any problems Validating, it should display a error code (in light gray) in the lower left side of the page. record that error code.

    7) Next, run the MGA Diagnostic Tool again

    8) Click Click the Windows tab and then the Copy button

    9) Create a responce post and paste in the report and the error code from step 6

It's apparent that your issue is larger then validation alone and if we can't get vista to validate, it may be that the problem that is causing the "Windows must be reinstalled to activate" and/or the ""IP Helper has stopped working, ..." Dialogs to appear, are also causing the the Validation issue and we would suggest contacting Vista support (http://support.microsoft.com/)

    Thank you,

  • I ended up re-installing the O.S. I no that is not what you wanted to here but even MS support could not help me. Very Ironic, I think...

  • Do you know of any way to activate OEM Vista without using the Recovery DVD?  I mean, that HP Pavillion disc is FULL of craplets that pre-installed Vista machines are notorious for!!  No wonder people hate Vista--the *** manufacturers put on the computers make them horribly slow--and they don't provide a way for a clean (and reasonably performing) install.

Microsoft needs to come up with a way to circumvent the craplet problem--or perception of Vista will continue to plague them as people mistake OEM gunk as Vista performance problems.

validation problems! This copy of windows is not genuine, I have tried updating my product key? Now I am told I need to do a Parallel Install, a new installation for Windows Vista, which is similar to a Clean Install, but does not affect my settings or information.

unfortunately these pre - installed computers do not come with the actual Operating system software to do this, I keep getting the run around from one computer tech to another. I feel like none of them actually knows anything about their products?

Both my original factory software key, and the product key for validating the software are genuine according to the Microsoft. But it will not validate, I have tried on line, and over the phone! I have down loaded the MGADiag…, I receive Invalid License. And I keep getting this pop up every time I start the computer he Windows Aero is not working this copy is not genuine, and the same error sits in the bottom right hand corner to remind me?

My case is ID # SRX 1056859559, or # 1057508724 and I have been taking screen shots of the problems and

Its a brand new computer with Vista home premium? Also can any one give my any real helpful information as to what to do and how to fix?

I am really not sure what to believe? or what needs to be done? If you at Microsoft read this please look up my case # and get in touch with me. case is ID # SRX 1056859559, or # 1057508724
