Mesh file sharing vs. Groove RRS feed

  • Question

  • How do you all see it in comparison to MS Groove?
Is Live Mesh a thin MS Groove + Virtual Desktop?

Just wondering if I should expect the same P2P behaviour, network usage, and impact from Mesh as we have experienced in our LAN here at the office with Groove.

  • Hello Alejandro,

Live Mesh is not a thinned-down Groove client.  Whereas Groove is an application focused on connecting business users with their Sharepoint and Office data, and ad-hoc P2P collaboration, Live Mesh is a Software + Services platform with a broader scope of putting users at the center of their digital world by connecting them with the information, apps and people they care about.  The underlying architecture is completely different, so you won't see the same P2P behaviour or network usage.  Rest assured though, that Live Mesh has tried to learn from the pains of Groove.

    Thanks,
    Richard

  • Do you guys intend for Mesh to have the same sort of collaboration tools that Groove does, or do you see them as being for separate purposes?

Groove has some cool features (like the store-and-forward capability of individual clients to pass data along to other clients) that would be awesome to see in Mesh.  Is this something worth adding to the wish list, or is it unlikely to happen?

  • Hi aatreya,

With the broad scope of Live Mesh as a Software + Services platform, as Richard mentions, we hope to see all sorts of functionality built on top of Live Mesh.  And having said that: Yes, by all means, please add your suggestion to our Wish List!  It's always worth sharing any ideas you have for ways to improve Live Mesh!

    Thanks,

    Ben.
