Installing a new version on One Care RRS feed

  • Question

  • Since MS wanted $49 to download the new One Care version and I could purchase a new CD for $39, I purchased the new CD. But when I tryed to install it, it would not work. What can I do to install it?

    Thanks,

    Mike ...

  • Hello Mike, install One Care from the website - http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-us/default.htm

After installation open One Care and click the subscribe button. When you reach the payment page select "pre-paid PIN as the payment method and enter the 25 digit product key included with the CD.

If you have not uninstalled your existing copy of OneCare, you do not need to uninstall/reinstall. You simply need to renew with the retail key.

If you have uninstalled your existing copy and the installation is failing because of an incomplete unisntall, use the cleanup tool before reinstalling per Jim's advice from http://onecare.live.com.

    Cleanup tool:  http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=828910&SiteID=2

If you reinstall, by activating with the same LiveID, the new install inherit the subscription status of the existing subscription and you wll not be prompted for payment or a retail PIN/Key.

Go to http://billing.microsoft.com and sign in with your subscription LiveID. (Open OneCare and click help/about to view the subscription LiveID)

Select the OneCare subscription and click on the renew link.

Choose the option to renew with a prepaid PIN or token which is the retail product key.

Enter the 25 character key and proceed.

It can take up to 24 hours for the subscription status to be updated in OneCare.
