Question

Hi everybody,
Last 4 days after the "fix" was implemented each post takes me 2-3, sometimes 4 tries before the post can be finally submitted. Therefore I have to spend 1 minute or more on each post I make.
I am not even mentioning that often trying to propose an answer or mark an answer results in the same 'Unexpected error'.
All these errors make my work with the forums a painful process.
The performance of the forums became worse in last 4 days, so the latest fix in reality made it even worse than it used to be.

I'll close this thread. The problem is not completely resolved, I still get the 'Unexpected error' often, but it is no longer on each thread, so in general the performance has improved from the last week.

Btw, is there a thread anywhere on MSDN describing the mentioned "fixes" in some more detail ?

Right, but it took me 2 tries to post!
Also, I keep getting 'Internal Server Error' trying to change the type of this thread http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/transactsql/thread/a36b3db3-7271-4f8e-bd69-8f935bd880ff/changeType/
I tried several times and got the same error.
Again got this error now trying to post.

The way I think, if this error is server-related, then everyone should get it, but I'm here every day, maybe not visiting the same forums as you do ( I stay most of my time in the SharePoint forums), but I have never seen any signs of "unexpected errors" anywhere. Sometimes it hangs for a couple of seconds when I click submit, but that's all. Could this have anything to do with browser versions? I'm using IE 9, haven't tested IE10 here yet.

I am using Chrome (although sometimes I switch to IE 9.0 also). In IE 9.0 the message doesn't show any error at all (the message is blank). In Chrome I got 'Unexpected Error' and I get it almost on every post.

Right now (7:12pm) it took me 2 unsuccessful tries before I was able to post this message
I used Google Chrome, but now I'm posting this message from IE.

I cannot repro. I've seen another issue where some browsers only last so long before they fail on me... on a particular system (one out of three I use). But the solution is just resetting the browser for me.
By chance do you see the toolbar of the reply window when it fails to submit? I have gotten it into a state when the toolbar for the reply window/box does not appear. The submit button doesn't do anything in that case.
Thanks!

I always see the toolbar. If I don't see a toolbar, I know it will not post.
BTW, my 2 today posts have not failed yet, but I just signed-in again to the forums. I usually sign in once and don't sign-out for a long time. Today I decided to log out and back in, may be it helped.

Today I keep getting 'Internal Error' when I try to click on 'My Threads' :( I already logged out and back in once to fix this problem, but now it's back again. I am using Google Chrome.
I always work my way from my threads first and I haven't finished with them yet to go to my forum.

I frequently get errors too, they are sporadic and unpredictable. Sometimes I attempt to post then get the good ol error. In the past I would copy my answer, refresh the page and repost again and it would work fine. Also, in the past, that was the only way I could do it. But now, I often can re-click the submit button without refreshing the page, and on the second or third try it posts fine. This leads me to believe maybe its some kind of server error? Server overloaded?

I also have the same experience. Second or third try usually works. Today in the morning it was Ok, but now I have to click on Submit button twice or 3 times every time I post. I am using IE today (normally I use Chrome).

I take it back. Now each post takes 7 tries and even after 7th try I can not post! Ridiculous. Today I am trying to use Chrome again :(
I wanted to post a very short message in this thread http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/transactsql/thread/778aa3f8-9a62-4c20-b89d-45e4883bedba
accessing it from 'My Threads'. I tried pressing Submit button 5 times, every time got the error. I then re-loaded this thread and tried to post that message again - same story.
I can not work in such conditions! Please fix this problem already!

Why I am not surprised that after spinning the wheel for about 30 seconds the same dreaded 'Unexpected Error' came back? I'll try two more times now.

I am getting bad problems today again :( Had to press submit buttons 3 times right now in this thread http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/transactsql/thread/15588793-a536-4d64-89b8-5fbb18d212d8
Will try using IE again (right now using Chrome) and also re-log.

Now am getting this too. Naomi - I tried marking some of your posts(in other threads) as 'proposed answer' but id didn't let me(same error both with Chrome and IE).
But I found a workaround - If I mark the post as helpful first, it will let me 'propose as answer'. At least that way, you'll get some of the points you have lost due to this bug ;)

I got 2 Unexpected errors trying to post here http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/transactsql/thread/dbc79852-e225-4bbc-a4d7-05f5ceaa1bf2
I was finally able to post on the 3rd attempt. I don't understand why do I have to go through such a painful process to post in these forums.

I tried merging this thread with the other you mentioned a few times and I always got 'Internal Server Error'. That was the topic of my latest (few minutes ago) e-mail to fissues.
Try yourself please to merge these two threads and see if you'll get that same error or not.

Performance is poor in the TechNet Forums (12-06-2012)! When is this going to be fixed? Can't post, reply or move threads without getting an error message! My productivity is going downhill fast! Currently running Windows 8 Pro with IE10 (one week old).

Tody it takes 5 or more attempts to submit a post. This is the worst this has been since this started a few months ago.
This happens on WIndows 7, Windows XP, WIndows 8.
It happens with IE8, IE9 and IE 10.
It happens on Comcast, Cablevision and a private corporate ISP in NYC.
At the rate tohis is degenerating it is likely that no one will be using Microsoft forums for very much longer.
I notice the number of posts has reduced noticably.
I believe this does not happen on the creation of a new topic but I haven't rtied that extensively.
This post submitted with no error for the first time today.
The time when successful is les than a secod ~300ms. When failing the time is around 30 secods to a minute before failure.
Second attempt to edit and post this produced an error. The profiler says 81 seconds waiting in function called "error". - no source code found.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yes, for me it is terrible as well. I sent another email to fissues. All people in our private SQL Server moderators forum experience the same issue. I am unable to post in Transact-SQL forum and I stepped out for the time being.
Can someone from the team please respond in this thread and let us know what's going on and when we can expect a fix?
Thanks again.

I've noticed a very strange thing - when I start proposing answers, I can do that for all the users except Naomi. As soon as I propose Naomi's answer, 7 out of 10 times I get the unexpected error.

Yes, somehow I suffer the most from these errors. 2/3 or more of my answers will get marked without history (and credit).
If it helps at all, I sent an email to fissues@microsoft.com on your behalf...
