Hi Dave,
This link is not to specific forum but to several forums threads.
By adding this part to the URL address "%2Cwindowssdk%2Cwhck&filter=alltypes&sort=lastpostdesc" you get threads from several forums.
* I actually wrote a blog several months ago on the official Forum Ninjas blog, about Microsoft Forums URL address format. It explain the URL pretty good I think (I hope it is, if not I can edit the blog).
** By the way, If you want to join the Forum Ninjas bloggers team, please inform me and I will be happy to add you the team :-)
For example you will see messages from the forums General Windows Desktop Development Issues and from Windows Hardware Testing and Certification and from Windows Hardware Testing and Certification...
Now if the user try to add question in this link, then he cant do it directly and he will need to choose the forum, so hei s back to the issue "where to post the question"

OK, sry, I thought it was by mistake :-)
* but this does not help IMO since the user will not be able to ask the question before he chose the forum from the list, which bring him to the same issue "where to ask the question". Better IMO to give him list of several relevant specific forums if need more than one.

Yes, I agree and that's what is was. List of three to choose from.
This is not the same like giving the user the three specific links separately, since he cannot ask there :-)
Check what will happened once you try to ask a question using the link you posted (this is the image I added above) - you cannot ask the question before you select specific forum from the list of all the forums. This mean that the user still don't know where to ask the question,since he don't see only 3 specific forums :-)
I meant that if you want to add three forums then IMO it's better to give the specific links like for example:
