Office XP Pro will not acknowledge activation RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

PC crashed and lost main drive and backup RAID drives so I have had to start from scratch. Installed XP Office Professional, MS Publisher and Media from the original CDs and activated OK. Automatic update has since installed SP3. I wanted to replace some lost templates from the site, but was asked to "Validate" before I could proceed. I got a message "Product not activated", so I installed Validation active-x control OK, but I still cannot proceed.

If I go to Excel Help Menu and click on Activate Product a box comes up "This product has already been activated".

Please advise where I go from here.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Carey,

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/903275/en-us

Method 2 for data.dat worked fine thanks very much.

However, I think there may have been a further complication. When I checked the properties for the dat file, it was associated with Nero Showtime as a video file.

Since the activation was working when I installed Office at the beginning, I think the later installation of my Nero Burning software during the PC rebuild may have caused the complication.

I think I will manage without it rather than risking upsetting the apple cart again.

    Thanks again.

  • Naki,

Please follow what Carey suggested to manually install the OGA ActiveX.

You many also want to make sure that your hidden files are set to be shown.

For detailed instructions, you can go to this website,  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919895

If you are still not able to activate, you many need to contact Microsoft directly.

Here is the website for the contact information:

    I hope this helps!
