  • I have a couple suggestion for all the spam coming through here....

Any new profile with 2 medals or less should have a link in their profile page to "Report that all this person does is spam", which would delete the forum profile and the subsequent threads they made after a mod reviews the request.

Alternatively maybe have a link in each new thread (but not in replies?) that if the OP has 2 medals or less you can "Report this post as spam", which would delete the post after a mod reviews the request.

Also I noticed that some spam posts I tried to report have had the "report spam" button gone, and Malwarebytes' was blocking access to a certain IP (sorry didnt save the IP it blocked)

Maybe we can limit the HTML editor to only a few tags, (which would be spelled out in a HTML editor help faq) and not have the ability to add CSS or JavaScript.

  • Hi JoelbX

"Alternatively maybe have a link in each new thread (but not in replies?) that if the OP has 2 medals or less you can "Report this post as spam", "

Well I have one medal but I would be pretty much hacked off if someone took your second suggestion and reported my posts as spam based on that, even though the moderator would not be likely to find fault in my post. :)

I would like the moderator to have the ability to delete a post on sight without having to open it (based on the obvious ones we have had in the XP forum lately) as this could clean up quite quickly - perhaps they have that ability already?  They could perhaps also disable or delete the user responsible at the same time?

  • I meant the link to report as spam would be there, but if you have 3 or more medals you aren't likely to spam, so the report spam link would disappear.
I see most spammers create a new account and them spam away, so they don't usually have more than 1 medal.

Going off of your same logic, every person gets a "report as abusive" link in their posts, so people report your posts as abusive all the time and you are being "hacked off"? Most people here are nice and will only report you if your post really is abusive, my suggestions work on the same principle that you only report it if it actually is true that the post is spam.

I understand it may not be fair for the people 3 medals and up to not have "report as spam" links, could someone suggest another way to implement this anti-spam stuff?

The main part of my suggestions is that you yourself without being a moderator here can do something about the spam and not just wait and hope for a mod to come by and delete the posts.

Maybe if a post gets a spam vote of 5 votes or more (like the vote as helpful voting stuff) (instead of 1 report and that is it for that post), any forum member here can delete the post at will after a mod reviews the votes???

Also I would like to see the user deleted if he doesn't have any useful posts (as most spam accounts are just for spam and they dont post helpful posts)..

Maybe these forums should hire more mods to keep the spam posts at bay!
